Katipunan Filipino Store

No vouchers were torn here

If you need any Pinoy goods and you're by the central area, drop by the Katipunan Filipino Store located at Block 177 01-136 Toa Payoh Central. It's just beside the Toa Payoh MRT and Bus Stations.

Sugod mga kapatid!

It has all the home delicacies you miss like pancit canton, sweet spaghetti sauce, longganisa, ilocos suka, and Globe/Smart credits/SIM if you need to call home.

A Night at the Capella Sentosa

Cousins from Taiwan came to visit this week and they invited me to stay with them at the Capella Hotel Sentosa!

Strong branches

The room we got was a Club 3 Bedroom Seaview, its a 3 bedroom suite with a kitchen, living room, dining room, and a balcony overlooking Sentosa.

Chillin by the sala

Chillin by the dining area

You'll learn a lot about people if you look at their bathroom

Chillin by the infinity pool

Chillin by the beach

Service was great! Staff were very accommodating and they treated you like you own the place! This was a good place to destress!

Cheapest room for two is around SGD500+ a night, good for occassions like Anniversaries. If you want to live like royalty, get the Colonial Manor Suite which costs around SGD12,000+ a night.

I miss the bed already

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, try spending a night at Capella Hotel Sentosa, you'll love it!

Extension of Short Term Visit Pass

If you want to extend your visit in Singapore for any reason at all,say you have to cover the whole island of Sentosa, try out different hawker centres or simply waiting for any documents approved, you can apply for an extension at ICA's e-XTEND online. No waiting for hours in line under the sun. You can do it at the comfort of your room.

Even your grandma can do it

If your application gets approved, next step is to pay a processing fee of about SGD30, then you'll have your visit pass extended in about 3 days.

EPEC and the Long Term Visit Pass Process

Singapore is the hub of multinational companies in South East Asia (SEA). Companies like UnileverSony Blizzard EntertainmentHewlett-PackardSeagate Technology has their regional offices based in Singapore. Its the place to be if you want you want to climb the corporate ladder a step higher or simply because you want to earn a lot more due to Singapore's economy.

Work Work

If you're a professional or a skilled worker and want to open up greater career opportunities, I suggest you come here to Singapore.

To help plan your job hunting in Singapore, here's the things you should do before you pack your bags:

1. Apply for an Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate (EPEC). Usually takes 1~2 weeks for the results.

2. If your EPEC gets approved, the Ministry of Manpower will snail mail you the hard copy of your EPEC. Usually takes 4~6 weeks to get the letter, depending on where you are in the world.

3. Once you've gotten your EPEC, apply for a Long Term Visit Pass. This will give you a valid stay of 1 year in Singapore. You will need this time to look for a job. Processing fee is about SGD30 payable online. Usually takes 2~4 weeks to get approved.

4. If your Long Term Visit Pass gets approved, you'd have to pay SGD90 processing fee for the the Medical Clearance Form (Blood Test and X-Ray), Form 14 (Visit Pass), In Principal Approval, Immigration Terms and Conditions and booking for a physical appointment at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority  (ICA) office in Singapore.

5. After booking for an appointment at ICA, get a medical check up. Processing time of your medical depends on where you are. If you have your medical in Singapore, it would take about 3 working days to get the results.

6. Go to the ICA office on your appointment date to get your Long Term Visit Pass Card. Don't forget to bring ALL documents required (Original and Photocopy).

7. Get your Long Term Visit Pass Card. You now have a valid stay of 1 year in Singapore to look for a job!

Its a nice looking card

Overall, you'll be needing about SGD160, 12 weeks and a lot patience to jumpstart your job hunting. Good luck!

Place to Stay in Singapore

If you're a foreigner, and you'll be in Singapore for some time, you'll be needing a place to stay. Most people rent a room in HDBs. They're basically apartment/condos built by the Singaporean government. You can only own one if you're a citizen or a PR (Permanent Resident).

A forest of HDBs

Most set ups of HDBs are 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 common room and a kitchen. The HDB program I must say is a very good housing program compared to other countries where they'll relocate you to a place you don't even know existed. Government housing in Singapore is well designed and strategically located near home needs like groceries, banks, food courts, bus stops, train stations etc.

Range of room rent

My HDB is in front of the bus AND train station, a stone's throw away from the grocery, bank, food shops like Old Chang Kee, and a ton of hawker centres! Now if only I could get work nearby :D

If you need a place to stay, check out the following real estate sites to help you find a place to call home in Singapura
